A Lasting Gift
I was putting on mascara before meeting my best friends, and this is simply what came to mind. Tis' the season to slow down and thank God for His good gifts.
There are friends who come and go,
And such is simply the way.
No malice or ill may follow them,
But in your life they do not stay.
In God’s grace there are others
Who come and never move;
Whose loyalty and love
They again and again so prove.
The laughter rolls like rivers,
Though we oft wade rivers of tears.
Familiar are both among each other,
After life lived over years.
A lighter load we carry,
For we never bear it alone.
In a foreign land, among frightful foes,
Together we feel at home.
A wild rumpus we sometimes throw.
Other times we sit in quiet.
Comfort in the silence.
Defenders in a riot.
A gift that’s like no other;
One that shows us more of Him.
A gift that through His life
Will have no real death, no end.
This, oh this, is the gift of a best friend.
